Thriving
Re: Motherhood — curated by Chelo Segear
A Look Behind: Thriving
The collection is called Thriving. As a mother, these images resonated with me because they show little humans interacting with their world and standing in their confidence. I hope viewers see the feeling mothers know so well: giving life and experiencing your children thrive.
How has motherhood shaped (or reshaped) the way you tap into your creativity?
I remember when mothers were looked down upon for expressing their talents as photographers through photographs of their children. We were nicknamed 'momtographers,' and dismissed as hobbyists, as if documenting life wasn't one of the craft's strongest tenets. I am proud to say that my creativity was heavily influenced by watching my children live.
What unexpected moments or connections fuel your inspiration when you need it most?
When my children find joy in something newly discovered, it inspires me to keep exploring this world. It's so lovely to be reminded that joy can be found anywhere, and they inspire me to keep living my best life.
